Summary of Role: The Electrical Engineer will support SunPower renewable energy electrical design and engineering services, and will provide electrical engineering support on commercial and utility scale solar PV project development, design, and construction. The position will provide detailed electrical design support and manage and review electrical design work of consultants. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned): - Perform design calculations, prepare designs, review and approve designs of others, and initiate improved design processes and methods. - Electrical engineering design and planning activities include, PV, DC and AC systems designs, integrating inverters, transformers, other Low/Medium/High voltage balance of system equipment, MV distribution/collector system designs, HV substation and HV T-line design support, Interconnection support and interact with Utilities, permit agencies, and other regulatory bodies, perform design and power system studies - Prepare and revise equipment specifications, Prepare construction documents, Perform analysis of operating conditions, Perform load flows analysis, short circuit analysis, and dynamic loading analysis as needed. - Work in a fast-paced team environment with engineers, designers, consultants, inspectors, regulators, and grid owners/operators. - Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all stakeholders. Minimum Requirements: - BS in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 4 years of low voltage, or medium voltage, or high voltage system design or equipment design experience. - Professional Engineer license or ability to become registered preferred - Demonstrated knowledge of the NESC, NEC, and other applicable standards - Knowledge of electric utility systems operation, maintenance and construction practices - Demonstrated use of state-of-the-art information technology applications and how they can be used to leverage the business unit's competitive advantage; can utilize computer software programs (i.e., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet and project management). - Individuals must be proactive, strategic thinkers, with strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to satisfy clients and embrace change in a growing, fast-paced work environment. Preferred Requirements: - Experience with electrical engineering design software tools such as (ETAP, SKM, ASPEN, PSCAD, EMTP, etc) - Experience with substation design and/or relay protection - Experience in the application of instrumentation for monitoring, measurement, and control of high voltage transformation and transmission equipment is preferred - Design experience with large scale renewable generation plants (solar, wind) preferred - Protective relay coordination experience preferred - Familiarity with NERC/FERC reliability standards preferred - Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems preferred - Experience working directly with utility and regulatory representatives preferred |
