Job Description:  CH2M HILL Roadway Engineer - Portland, OR
The challenge? Helping our communities stay safely on the move. The CH2M HILL Portland office of Transportation is seeking an energetic Roadway Engineer to join our team. Our Roadway Engineer jobs provide you with the opportunity to work on exciting and engaging infrastructure projects of varying size. Each day, you will utilize your skills and contribute to work on highway planning, design and construction in connection with complex, multi-disciplined projects. In this position you will be exposed to a wide-range of projects involving traffic operational analyses, safety studies, and roadway planning, geometric design, and construction. You will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures to complete your assigned tasks in a team environment.
Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with a BSCE (MS preferred) and 2-5 years of prior experience in roadway and drainage design. Certification as an engineer-in-training is a minimum requirement however licensure as a professional engineer in the State of Oregon, or the ability to obtain licensure is a plus. Effective verbal and written communication skills are important for client interaction and career advancement. Experience working with Microstation and InRoads preferred, but experience with similar design software packages such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D is also valuable. You should have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each engineering job.
The preferred candidate should also be proficient in the basic aspects of roadway drainage design from hydrologic calculations to storm system design. The successful candidate shall have experience developing collection system layouts and drainage area maps, performing inlet capacity calculations, and designing storm water conveyance systems. The candidate should also have familiarity and some experience designing and analyzing culverts, water quality treatment systems, open channel design, and outlet/energy dissipater design.

Our Roadway Engineers:
  • Gain experience in various aspects of roadway design including drainage design, permitting, signing and pavement marking design
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports
  • Prepare roadway plans, detail drawings and project specifications
  • Review roadway plans, performing horizontal and vertical roadway alignment calculations and utility research and coordination
  • Provide construction inspection and oversight on various roadway construction projects develop and produce conceptual, preliminary and final roadway design drawings
  • Perform quantity calculations

Basic Qualifications

  • BSCE
  • 2-5 years of prior experience in roadway and drainage design
  • Certification as an engineer-in-training

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS preferred
  • Professional engineer in the State of Oregon, or the ability to obtain licensure
  • Experience working with Microstation and InRoads preferred, but experience with similar design software packages such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D is also valuable
  • Proficient in the basic aspects of roadway drainage design from hydrologic calculations to storm system design

Degree Required

Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
