Summary of Role: SUMMARY OF ROLE

SunPower is seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer

The ideal person will have experience in design and performance of experiments involving long life outdoor materials. They will have extensive knowledge of statistics, acceleration factor calculation, test chambers and regimes. This person will work closely with design engineers and will ideally have some design experience: designing parts and fixtures, working with vendors and outside consultants, rapid prototyping, etc. We are not looking for someone who says "you can't do that"; we're looking for someone who says "we can do it like this". Familiarity with low-cost structure design and mechanisms and outdoor structural materials highly desirable. Familiarity with welding, machining, sheet metal design, and industrial design practices also considered positively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate with other members of the product development team to define evaluate and test products to their required specification.
  • Develop experiments, execute the tests and document findings.
  • Identify product requirements and develop specifications accordingly.
  • Identify and execute the most critical tests within a constrained timeframe.

OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION
  • Some amount of travel will be required, not exceed 10%
Minimum Requirements:
  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • 3-5 years experience in reliability engineering
  • Strong mechanical design aptitude
  • Hands-on prototyping capability, experience with coming machining practices desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Self motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams.
  • Strong communications skills required
Preferred Requirements:
  • MS in Mechanical Design Engineering a plus
