Job Description:  CH2M HILL Senior Structural Engineer Careers - Houston, TX

The challenge? Help develop and provide high quality, leading edge sustainable engineering solutions to our clients in the power, oil & gas, chemicals and petrochemical, and petroleum refining industries for water/wastewater treatment. Our Senior Structural Engineer positions provide you with an opportunity to work on exciting Water, Energy and Chemical projects in our Houston market. Each day you will be an important team leader as you participate in the design coordination, execution, procurement support, construction support and execution of Structural projects for our clients. You should be a self-motivated, detailed oriented professional with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field, 10 to 15 or more years of experience in structural engineering and design for water treatment, wastewater treatment, oil and gas and chemical facilities and a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each project .


Our Senior Structural Engineers :

  • Supervise, train and mentor junior staff.
  • Analyze structures using various structural engineering software programs.
  • Prepare structural calculations and details of structural elements for various materials, predominantly steel and concrete.
  • Develop structural specifications, design basis, scope of work, etc.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs and vendor bid evaluations.
  • Coordinate vendor package equipment, design, fabrication and delivery to meet project schedule and specifications including fabrication facility inspections and package expediting.
  • Participate in construction support activities including responses to requests for information (RFIs), submittal reviews, construction site visits, and design revisions/ management of change.
  • Participate in the generation of proposals, scopes, schedules and budgets on mechanical engineering work.
  • Implement National Standards, Codes of Practice, software and requirements of engineering practices for all work performed.
  • Complete and manage work within the Scope of Work, budget and Schedule for assigned projects.
  • Identify variations in a timely manner and report the impact on schedule and budget to Lead Engineer.
  • Guide the designers / drafters to prepare structural drawings.
  • Coordinate requirements between other disciplines and perform checks of documents and drawings of other disciplines.
  • Coordinate or perform discipline check for design documents and drawings.
  • 3D modeling review.
Special Note: Preference will be given to candidates residing in the greater Houston area.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Structural Engineering for Water, Wastewater, Energy and Chemical Industries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of structural design standards and codes.
  • Experience in the specification and procurement of structural components and related construction work.
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as STAAD, Pro-Structures and RAM.
  • Experience in producing 3D computer models

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15 years of experience in Structural Engineering for Water, Wastewater, Energy and Chemical Industries.
  • Texas P.E. registration.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Suite including MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety requirements for design and operation of equipment and facilities in oil and gas, energy or petrochemical facilities.
