Minimum Requirements: BS in Civil Engineering or Planning
Minimum of 5 years professional experience in traffic engineering, travel demand modeling, ITS planning/engineering and/or transportation planning
Experience with FHWA, State, and local traffic engineering procedures, including HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, CORSIM and VISUM
Experience with travel demand models including CUBE and TransCAD
Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland or ability to obtain one within one year
PTOE certification
Strong project management skills
Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to discuss projects with clients, regulatory agency staff, URS staff, and the public in meetings and at public events
Excellent writing skills and the ability to write concise and readable technical reports and documents
Must be highly self motivated with the ability to successfully multi-task, perform detail oriented work, work independently with minimum supervision, and demonstrate effective time management skills
Proven ability to participate in teams working on a variety of transportation projects
Skilled in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software programs
Must have a valid driver's license

Job Description: URS is seeking a Senior Transportation/ITS Engineer for the Hunt Valley, Maryland, office. This individual reports to the Group Manager of ITS/Traffic Engineering in the URS Hunt Valley Environmental and Transportation Planning Department. The ITS/Traffic Engineering Group is comprised of engineers and support staff and is responsible for conducting various types of travel demand forecasting, traffic engineering analyses, traffic engineering design, ITS planning, ITS design and ITS implementation for roadways, transit systems, freight, toll roads, bicycle and pedestrian facilities for local, state, and federal clients in Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region. Examples of projects include travel demand forecasting efforts for major highway/transit projects, development and use of simulation models for planning and operational analyses, safety studies, congested location studies, and corridor studies. The successful candidate will serve as a task manager on various projects and as project manager on others.
The candidate will be responsible for supervising and mentoring staff, monitoring and ensuring project performance, project management, producing high quality deliverables, and adherence to URS policies. The selected candidate will also contribute to marketing and business development efforts in partnership with the Group Manager, Department Manager and Business Development Manager. Strong emphasis will be placed on technical experience, writing and communication skills, quality of work, and ability to manage projects and project teams on budget and schedule.
