Job Description:  CH2M HILL Operations Supervisor Careers - The Villages, FL
The challenge? We provide a range of custom-tailored operations and maintenance solutions of all public and private utility systems for our client in The Villages, Florida. The project encompasses eight water treatment systems, three wastewater treatment plants, and collection and distribution systems, meter reading, and residential and commercial sanitation services. The Villages, located outside of Tampa, serves a population of 87,000 residents.

As an Operations Supervisor you will supervise the operation, repair, and maintenance and manage a team of 15 employees overseeing the day to day management of the water and wastewater treatment plants, lift stations and collections and distribution. You will prepare required reports and maintain complete recordkeeping procedures. Analyze recording instrument readings and laboratory test results and adjust various plant processes accordingly. Inspect plant to determine efficiency of operations, cleanliness, and maintenance activities. Supervise and train employees. Determine remedial actions in emergencies. Prepare work schedules subject to Project Manager's approval. Prepare company required reports and state required reports. Maintain records. Perform employee evaluations. Health and Safety are a key element to oversee the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implements operator and operations management training programs
  • Establishes cooperative relationships with coworker, operations staff, vendors, contractors, and all others contacted during work
  • Evaluates and directs the process of the treatment plants
  • Maintains accurate operational records and prepare reports as required by the Project Manager
  • Monitors records; keeps computer data updated with laboratory data
  • Maintains technical operational skills at the highest level and remains informed of the latest developments in the field including EPA regulations as they pertain to water/wastewater treatment
  • Communicates effectively, both written and verbally with supervisors, coworkers, and clients
  • Prepares, consults on, or reviews operations cost and staffing estimates
  • Conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations and operator assistance programs
  • Provides technical and management assistance to CH2M HILL projects on an "as requested" basis including temporary assignment to project supervisory positions
  • Controls activated sludge system and pretreatment
  • Monitors and optimizes energy use
  • Monitors all chemical usage and evaluates polymers for solids handling
  • Inspects plant to determine efficiency of operations, cleanliness, and maintenance activities
  • Supervises and trains employees
  • Determines remedial action in emergencies
  • Prepares work schedules subject to approval of Manager
  • Prepares reports and maintains records
  • Assists Utilities Manager and Safety coordinator in conducting ongoing safety program
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
  • Performs other duties as required

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification at a level required by the State in which the project is located
  • Possess a valid driver's license with no major infractions in past 5 years
  • Two years experience at a supervisory level
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data management systems and be able to operate plant PLC's and SCADA systems
  • Good understanding and working knowledge using Operator 10 and Maintenance Connection or similar operations databases
  • Experience working at multiple facilities
  • Good working knowledge of EPA Regulations and the ability to effectively communicate with company compliance department and state regulators.
  • Experience working with lab and following QA/QC program as well as submitting DMR QA studies
  • Four years experience in the operation and maintenance of water/wastewater treatment plant facilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highest level certification in the State in which the project is located
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools employed in the general operation of engines, pumps, valves, motors, and related equipment; general maintenance work; safe work practices; principles and methods of biological and chemical sewage analyses, effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes, principles of supervision and training; principles of budget preparation and expenditure control
