Job Description:  ARCHAEOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN II
Position Summary:
The Archaeology Technician II performs routine field, laboratory and office duties under the direction of a Senior Archaeologist.  Typical tasks include conducting archaeological monitoring, field survey, assisting in archaeological excavation, conducting records searches and assisting in laboratory analysis.   

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Conducts archaeological monitoring as assigned as part of a project.
  • Completes daily reporting logs and contributes to monthly reports
  • Conducts records searches
  • Assists in archaeological laboratory tasks
  • Conducts various archaeological field duties such as survey, excavation and site recordation under the direction of a senior archaeologist
  • Assists in report preparation.
  • Other duties may be assigned; this is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • A B.S. or B.A. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or a related field, and one year experience in California archaeology; or An A.S. or A.A. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or a related field, and four years experience in California archaeology; or Enrollment in upper division classes pursuing a degree in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or a related field, and two years of experience in California.
  • Must be willing to travel locally to conduct field work.
  • Must be familiar with the use of hand-held sub-meter GPS units
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated innovation in developing solutions to projects.
  • Communication and teamwork skills as exhibited on projects.
