Job Description:  AECOM is seeking an entry-level Fisheries Technician based in our Sacramento, CA office. The position is a part-time variable or "on call" position, which means the employee may have no work on some weeks and up to 60 hours on others. Weekend work may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary work includes operating boats in the CA Delta, catching multiple species of fish via hook-and-line sampling, trailering boats long distances, maintenance of boats, outboard engines, and trailers, and insertion of multiple tag types into fish.
  • Ability to identify all freshwater fish species present in CA is also required.
  • Must be flexible and willing to accept assignments in various locations throughout California; however, the majority of work will be located in the Sacramento region.
  • The position requires the ability to work independently and unsupervised.
Qualifications:


  • The ability and desire to perform extensive fieldwork during adverse weather conditions on field assignments ranging from several days to weeks at a time will be essential.
  • The ability to safely navigate boats on unfamiliar waterways, some of which are tidally influenced, and efficiently capture multiple species with hook-and-line are essential to this position.
  • Must demonstrate a level of boating and angling experience with an emphasis on the CA Delta.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are fundamental.
  • Attitude and demeanor compatible with collaborative team efforts, ability to professionally interact with clients and resource agency representatives, and ability to understand the expectations of assigned tasks are desired.
  • Valid CA drivers license
