Job Description:  JOB FUNCTION:   To assist the Branch Safety Manager in all SH&E functions. This includes Safety, Health, and Environmental training of AECOM, FS CONTRACT employees, inspection of machinery and equipment spaces, performing collecting, and storing of waste materials, inspections of Hazardous Material Storage areas, and cooperating with Agency Safety/Environmental personnel on all related issues.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Perform inspections of mechanical and equipment spaces, hazardous materials storage areas, and all AECOM, work areas for Safety, Health, and Environmental concerns. Shall confirm inspection with written reports on these findings and work with the different branch management and personnel to correct conditions noted.
  • Assists in developing and implementing SH&E policies and procedures governing AECOM employee operations and tasks, for Safety, Health, and Environmental issues.
  • Perform Safety, Health, and Environmental training to AECOM, employees. This includes monthly Safety Orientation training for new employees, environmental safety procedures and equipment, training on environmental spill response, hazardous waste spill response, and other training issues pertinent to AECOM, employees and their operations.
  • Chair the Employee Advocate Safety Committee. Organize monthly meetings, distribute information to the committee members, train committee members in conducting weekly branch safety training, act as a conduit between the Safety Committee and SH&E Manager. Make monthly reports to all AECOM Managers apprising them of issues brought up from the committee members.
  • Perform collection of waste materials generated by AECOM or the facility customers; prepare documentation lists of the waste materials and quantities, and storage of Hazardous materials generated by the customer and AECOM.
  • Perform weekly inspections of the Hazardous Waste Satellite shed and document the inspection in writing.
  • Assist the Facility Environmental personnel during scheduled quarterly pickups of waste materials by preparing the profile lists and forwarding to the waste material contractor before the removal. Facilitate the moving of the waste materials to the dock areas.
  • Assist the SH&E manager in the investigation, reporting, and follow-up response efforts for onsite incidents that occur to both customer and AECOM operations.
  • Assist SH&E Manager in conducting field-testing to obtain data on sources and methods of controlling air, water, and soil pollutants.
  • Assist the SH&E Manager in preparing any required federal, state, or customer reports on environmental, health, and safety issues.
  • Respond to environmental spills and emergencies to assist in the clean up and control.
  • Respond to health and safety issues within the compound for both the customer and AECOM employees concerns.
  • Become knowledgeable on federal, state, and local safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Frequently inspect and re-stock materials and equipment needed for safety and site emergency response spill kits. Order safety/environmental supplies as needed.
  • Assist in the enforcement of the AECOM, Health and Safety Plan with all AECOM, employees and operations.
  • Perform other safety, health, and environmental duties as requested.
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Knowledge and experience of Federal EPA standards, Virginia State, and local safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State OSHA regulations.
  • Must be able to work comfortably in a variety of desktop settings (Microsoft Office Suite, IBM Lotus Notes, etc.)
  • Must have a valid motor vehicle driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must have good communication skills, possessing the ability to perform public speaking and training.
  • Must have the ability to work well with others.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
 

EDUCATION:  

•    A Bachelors degree in safety, environment, or a related field or the equivalent professional background with relevant safety, health, or environmental experience is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:


  • A minimum of three years work experience in a related Safety, Health, or Environmental field.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  


  • B/S in a Safety, Health, or Environmental related field.
  • Minimum of three years work/field experience.
  • Experienced in public speaking for training of personnel.
 

SECURITY:

Must be a U.S. Citizen, able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
