Job Description:  Our Santa Maria office is currently seeking a Project Scientist (Scientist III) Level Engineer/Geologist/Scientist to assist Sr. Project Managers with Environmental Assessment and Remediation projects in Central Coast and Central Valley, California. The Project Level Scientist III will have the overall accountability to provide independent task planning, execution, analysis, and reporting for specific discipline under general direction.  Candidate will research and solve technical problems in accordance with accepted practice/methodology and report on results. Candidate will report to and be guided by one or more Sr. Project Managers in the execution of field work at projects sites. Working with their respective team, candidate will be responsible for delivering the agreed, defined project deliverables on time, within budget, and of the quality that is in accordance with the AECOM and client business, technical and HSE requirements, and regulatory compliance. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides basic technical expertise in the field of impacted site assessment and remediation.
  • Primary focus will be on executing all field and reporting aspects of standard investigations including, groundwater sampling, soil sampling, soil gas sampling, and well installation under supervision and direction by the Sr. Project Manager.
  • Manage tasks associated with pre and post field activities such as preparations of health and safety plans (HASPs), obtaining permits, soliciting subcontractors, and contributing to report preparation.
  • Will be expected to undertake most aspects of reporting, including data interpretation and internal recommendations within established guidelines. The individual will be expected to have a basic understanding of the regulatory framework for the industry and their particular business unit.
  • Will coordinate work and seek input as appropriate from the Sr Project Manager and Senior Technical Resources to make certain that the work performed is consistent with the project expectations.
  • Will also participate in aspects of proposal preparation and scoping exercises, such as sourcing and seeking quotes from subcontractors/suppliers.
  • May supervise and delegate various tasks to junior staff and/or subcontractors. Will be a self-starter, anticipating and initiating field and reporting activities without prompting from the Sr. Project Manager.
  • Task and Site management of construction, subsurface exploration, and coordinated sampling.
  • Experience conducting operations and maintenance on various remediation systems a plus.
  • Experience in sampling and understanding of methods used in groundwater, soil, and soil vapor investigation.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum BS degree in engineering (civil, environmental, chemical, mechanical or geotechnical) or related science with 8-12 years of environmental consulting experience
  • Registration as Professional Engineer or Geologist is desired
  • Experience in assessment and remediation of petroleum impacted sites
  • Working knowledge of state (CA) and federal regulations
  • OSHA 40-hour training with current OSHA 8hr refresher a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a project team and a fast paced environment
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol screen.
  • Ability to pass health and safety accreditation for active and inactive petroleum sites.
