Job Description:  The Geologist I position based in the AECOM Sacramento office has the overall accountability to provide independent task planning, execution, analysis, and reporting for specific disciplines under general direction.   The individual will research and solve technical problems in accordance with accepted practice/methodology and report on results.
You will report to and be guided by one or more Project Managers for the execution of field work at projects sites. Working with their respective teams, you are responsible for delivering the agreed and defined project deliverables on time, within budget, and of the quality that is in accordance with the AECOM and client business, technical and HSE requirements, and regulatory compliance.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides basic technical expertise in the field of impacted site assessment and remediation.
  • Primary focus will be on executing all field and reporting aspects of standard Phase 1 and 2 ESAs, and groundwater sampling under supervision and direction by the Project Manager.
  • Conduct field investigations and sampling in support of state and Federal CERCLA/RCRA sites.
  • Manage tasks associated with pre and post field activities such as preparations of HASPs, obtaining permits, soliciting subcontractors, and contributing to report preparation and writing sections of reports.
  • Will be expected to undertake most aspects of reporting, including data interpretation and internal recommendations within established guidelines. Will coordinate work and seek input as appropriate from the Project Manager and Senior Technical Resources to make certain that the work performed is consistent with the project expectations.
  • Will also participate in aspects of proposal preparation and scoping exercises, such as sourcing and seeking quotes from subcontractors/suppliers. All work must be reviewed by more experienced staff.
  • Will be a self-starter, anticipating and initiating field and reporting activities without prompting from the Project Manager. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:   100% of TIME 

  • Collection of pertinent field data using proscribed field methods.
  • Multi-media sampling (vapor, liquid, groundwater, soil)
  • Oversight of subcontractors; and onsite HSE.
POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL SCOPE OF POSITION:

  • The individual will be required to work in more than one venue.
  • Work environment: Office 10%, Field 90%. Will vary based on workflow and type. Overnight and out of town travel is anticipated.
  • Physical demands: Will need to pass an annual physical to demonstrate fitness to perform field work.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol screen.
  • Ability to pass health and safety accreditation for active and inactive petroleum sites.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:   

  • BS minimum with MS preferred. Discipline: Geology or science degree and relevant experience  
  • 2 plus years of related experience  
  • Results oriented
  • Process oriented
  • Organized
  • Multi tasking
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (word, excel, project)
  • Valid CA drivers license
