Minimum Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field with 8 years of related experience. In lieu of a degree, 16 years of related experience in a fire protection field. Related experience should include at least 10 years experience in Department of Energy fire protection and knowledge of associated DOE Orders, Standards, directives, regulations and practices, and a working Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards. Experience analyzing and solving complex fire protection and fire safety related problems. Meets qualifications to become a Professional member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE)
Must have the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
Additional Qualifications • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with International Building Code, International Fire Code, Uniform Building Code, Uniform Fire Code Factory Mutual Datasheets and Approval Guide, DOE Orders and Technical Standards, Life Safety Code, OSHA, and other NFPA Codes and Standards. • Knowledge of Department of Energy Fire Protection Program Requirements and Standards • Ability to preparing a DOE compliant fire hazard analysis. • Experience with industrial insurance highly protected risk criteria/facilities. • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including preparing technical/administrative documents/reports and participation in design reviews and giving technical presentations. • Intermediate experience with business software such as Adobe Pro, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Project, and Visio). • Proven ability to work independently as well as be a strong team member. • Must be able to complete pre-employment drug screen, Construction Site Physical, and background check. • Demonstrated analytical and decision making skills with the ability to organize and effectively coordinate multiple and frequently conflicting, concurrent tasks, with good follow-through. • Registered Fire Protection Engineer. • Qualified Fire Protection Engineer (either SFPE Professional member or meets qualifications of SFPE professional member). • Experience in NIST Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) or Consolidated Fire and Smoke Transport Model (CFAST) • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS)

The E&NS Fire Protection Engineer will provide comprehensive fire protection support to temporary, permanent, and leased facilities for the WTP project. The selected candidate will report to the E&NS Fire Protection Manager. The selected individual will interact with all levels of personnel in the organizations supported, including managers, engineers, and subcontractors. The E&NS Fire Protection Engineer will work closely with the E&NS Fire Protection Manager, E&NS Fire Protection Engineers, Nuclear Safety Engineers, Construction personnel, Plant Operations personnel, WTP Fire Protection Design Engineers, Other design professionals as needed, and the Hanford Site Fire Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The E&NS Fire Protection Engineer is responsible for fire protection activities performed at the direction of a E&NS Fire Protection Manager, which include but are not limited to the following:
Develop and maintain fire hazard analysis, perform fire protection program and facility assessments, develop and review written reports and analysis related to facility design and fire protection adequacy, and perform fire hazard calculations using NFPA and SFPE fire protection handbooks and/or CFAST or other modeling codes. Apply fire and building codes to analyze the adequacy of life safety, fire barriers, and fire protection systems. Review project drawings, plans, procedures, specifications, procedures, guides, work instructions, and vendor shop drawings to support meetings Department of Energy (DOE), WTP Construction, WTP Operations, WTP Engineering, and WTP project fire protection program requirements. Evaluate facilities for adequacy of fire protection features, including but not limited to fire suppression systems, fire detection systems, fire barriers, and Life Safety requirements related to egress system and implementation of applicable NFPA, FM data sheets, OSHA, and DOE codes, standards and DOE directives. Make recommendations including but not limited to compliance with applicable codes, standards DOE directives, and WTP policies and procedures. Prepare plans, work break down schedules, procedures, guides, work instructions, technical reports and calculations. Oversee the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems. Oversee the WTP Fire Protection Plan. Work with WTP Construction, Safety Assurance, Startup, and Operations departments to resolve fire protection compliance issues. EOE M/F/D/V
