Minimum Requirements:
• BS Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural design or a structural engineering degree, or other appropriate discipline.
• Must have knowledge of AutoCADD.
• Good understanding of engineering techniques.
• Basic knowledge of types of code requirements and where to find the applicable requirements for a particular location.
• Basic knowledge of types of permits that may be required, the application process, and where to find the applicable requirements for a particular location.
• Ability to use design software, models, etc. to solve complex issues with direction from senior staff.
• Basic knowledge means and methods of construction.
• Basic understanding of acceptable manufacturing and construction tolerances of materials, equipment and skill of available labor.
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
Job Description:
The position will be part of the Transportation Structures Division which is responsible for the structural design of highway bridges, railroad bridges, light rail bridges, retaining walls and other highway transportation structures. This will include the preparation of calculations and drawings, use of computer programs to model structural components, checking of calculations, drawings and shop drawings, calculation of quantities and cost estimates. Assignments may include bridge rehabilitation or replacement, or interchange design or design build projects for steel and concrete (prestressed and post-tensioned) bridges.
Responsibilities will include:
• reviewing technical memos, reports, plans, specifications and estimates
• preparing technical proposals and presentations
• providing technical expertise for resolution of roadway/highway design issues
• providing technical guidance to projects, technical reviews, development of technical strategies to resolve design issues
