SUMMARY:
Directs and coordinates the identification and resolution of performance gaps for an organization, including implementation of Bechtel-wide corporate super PIP (Process Improvement Project) solutions. Responsible for the development and standardization of Six Sigma training material. Formulates Six Sigma training policy for senior management approval. Directs the implementation of Six Sigma training within the global business units (GBUs) and with other Bechtel companies and service groups. Participates in activities related to Six Sigma within the industry. Informs management of the effectiveness of Six Sigma training implementation. May be assigned to Corporate EPC Functions or to a GBU or other service organization.

JOB DIMENSIONS:
A. Supervision Received
  • Receives operational supervision and guidance with regard to goals and objectives from the Corporate or GBU or Service Six Sigma Deployment Champion.
B. Supervision Exercised
  • Provides functional guidance and operational supervision to Master Black Belts and Black Belts within GBU, functions and service groups.
C. Contacts
  • Establishes and maintains compatible working relationships with client organizations, including senior and project level Six Sigma personnel, and with other outside agencies. Coordinates Six Sigma related activities of the global business unit with management of engineering, construction, procurement, administrative services, test, operations, decommissioning, and service groups.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  1. Directs and coordinates the resolution of performance gaps and process problems which are corporate in scope or have not been resolved at the project level. Achieves this by interfacing with engineering, procurement, construction, environmental, safety, administrative services, test, and operations organizations.
  2. Directs the technical activities of the Six Sigma department through appropriate subordinate managers.
  3. Formulates Six Sigma training policies required to implement or supplement basic policies and submits recommendations for senior management approval.
  4. Reviews and approves Six Sigma training procedures and instructions defining responsibilities and functions of Six Sigma personnel within the corporation to ensure that the required basic Six Sigma program is obtained and that additional requirements are justified.
  5. Establishes and maintains client relationships at senior and project levels to provide free interchange of Six Sigma-related information and reasonable and timely resolution of performance gaps and process problems.
  6. Reviews and approves Six Sigma training programs, implementation plans, and procedures, staffing and changes in project scope affecting Six Sigma.
  7. Provides periodic reports to management relative to the effectiveness of the GBU and other Bechtel companies and service group Six Sigma programs; recommends solutions to management of any problems requiring special attention.
  8. Directs Six Sigma training within GBUs and other Bechtel companies and service groups. Mentors and coaches other Master Black Belts, Black Belts and candidates. Directs the formulation of programs for maintaining the professional competence of Six Sigma personnel within the organization.
  9. Assists in staffing qualified personnel for current and future requirements.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Certified Master Black Belt.
Knowledge in the areas of program management, engineering, procurement, construction and start-up, and operation of large industrial, commercial or governmental projects, and decommissioning of operating facilities.
Knowledge of Six Sigma principles and their application to engineering, procurement, construction, environmental, safety, testing and operations.
Proficiency in oral and written communication.
Proficiency in providing direction and on-the-job training to assigned personnel.
Expert proficiency in Microsoft software, Minitab, iGrafx Process and Six Sigma Tools.
The above knowledge is normally acquired through:
  • a recognized degree preferably in an engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent experience
  • experience in management of a functional group, engineering, procurement, construction or start-up
  • a recognized Master Black Belt certification preferably with Bechtel
  • experience in leading a Six Sigma Black Belt Training Wave or acting as Deployment Coordinator
