Project Description:

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world's largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The $12.2 billion project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons (200 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects-equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres (26 hectares) and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory.
Positions located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) work a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. All other work locations (Richland WA, Oakland CA and Frederick MD) work a 9-80's schedule, M-F 7:00 am to 4:30 pm with alternating Fridays off.

Role Overview

Material Specialist - Tool Inventory Control: Procurement, storage, issuance and inventory of all project tools. Coordinates between Field Material Management and Construction to identify and provide required tools. Ensures accurate distribution and return of tools to Construction. Implements procedures and policies regarding tool inventory control and planned inventory control mechanisms. Assists in early identification of surplus or unneeded tools, and coordinates tool availability in support of construction's scheduled activities. Prepares project reports on tool inventory, disposition, and consumption. Maintains direct working relationships with Tool Control Supervisor. Has direct interface with Field Material Management, Asset Management, non-manuals and Construction to ensure that tool inventory is maintained and accurately reported.

Job Responsibilities (may include but not limited to):
  • Monthly reporting input.
  • Toolhound input and maintenance, including use of handheld scanners.
  • Maintains contact with suppliers of tools to monitor the progress of repairs/inspections, reviews invoices for accurate charges.
  • Coordinates exiting employee records and transfer of inventory.
  • Provides weekly/monthly reports for inventory and consumption to Tool Control Supervisor and Asset Management.
  • Tracks disposition of tools through Asset Management and approved write off.
  • Utilizing ToolHound and Microsoft office suite applications, updates inventory records and provides reports on inventory and tool crib status.
  • Prepares Field Material Requisitions/Field Service Requisitions for tool repair and fire extinguisher maintenance with offsite vendors. Tracks service costs for service complete.
  • Participate in tool inventories and toolhound record maintenance.
  • Performing material receiving tasks for delivered materials.
  • Working with Engineering, Expediting, Purchasing and Receipt Inspection and Test personnel to resolve material receiving issues.
  • Performing Inventory tasks.
  • Processing Material Withdrawal Requests.
  • Other Material Management tasks as directed.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited university.
  • In lieu of formal degree a minimum of 6 years of related experience including but not limited to Procurement, preferably in a construction, warehouse, tool control, or procurement environment.

Additional Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check.
  • Ability to work with engineering, construction and the other procurement team members.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Government agency or DOE experience
  • Prior WTP experience.
  • Prior experience dealing with construction projects and the supply of tools and consumables.
  • Proficient in automated systems, for example: Bechtel Procurement System (BPS), Tool Hound, and Microsoft office suite applications.
