Bechtelis designing, constructing, and commissioning the world's largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The $12.2 billion project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons (200 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct ofplutonium-productionduring World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects-equivalentto building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres (26 hectares) and includesfacilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory. Role Overview - Work with a team of Plant Design/Space Management designers and engineers to develop the layout and arrangement of a waste treatment facility for the WTP Project.
- Prepare detailed layout designs of piping and/or HVAC ducting, structural commodities using Microstation 3D peripheral software.
- Locate structural embeds, wall penetrations, design radiological shielding systems and structures.
- Good understanding of operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Good understanding of construction requirements including modularization.
- Contributes to engineering estimates (e.g., estimated quantities, material take-offs). Perform as-built reconciliation (field walk-downs).
- Prepares reviews and checks detailed designs, 3D models, drawings, and documents for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality, and completeness. Prepares moderate to complex layout of facilities including design/routing of piping/HVAC ducting and electrical raceway systems. Provides technical direction of subordinate designers and drafters.
- Capable of shifting priorities as required to support schedules and job demands.
- Will use strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Have the ability to coordinate at a multi-discipline level, with Project management and the client.
Basic Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Industrial Technology, Drafting Technology, Architectural Engineering from an accredited college or universitywith 9 years progressive related piping design experience,
- Or Associates degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Industrial Technology, Drafting Technology, Architectural Engineering with 11 years progressive related piping design experience,
- Or in lieu of degree 15 years of progressive related piping design experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of lead or supervisory experience.
- Recent Bentley Plant Space Design Series & Microstation user experience is required.
- Extensive knowledge& application of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 codes.
Additional Information Minimum Qualifications - Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check.
Preferred Qualifications - Previous experience on the RPP-WTP Project in Richland, Washington or another government nuclear waste processing facility.
- Understands requirements related to seismic interaction and hydrogen in piping and ancillary vessels (HPAV)
- Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
