CH2M HILL Field Health & Safety Technician - Prudhoe Bay, Alaska

The challenge? Helping ensure the supply of our world's oil and gas. At CH2M HILL, we deliver solutions that span the entire breadth of the oil industry. Our Field Health & Safety Technician job will provide you with the opportunity to work and live on the North Slope of Alaska on a rotational basis. Each day you will work with field staff in the administration of various safety programs. You should be a self motivated, detail oriented professional with two years of progressive work experience in the health and safety field for heavy construction projects, an Associate's degree in a related field, and prior experience working on the North Slope.

Our Field Health & Safety Technicians:

  • Under immediate supervision, perform assigned tasks from detailed instructions, established policies and procedures
  • Assist others in implementing and monitoring industrial safety programs to ensure personnel and facility safety, with monitoring employee exposure to chemicals and other toxic substances, assists others in performing surveys and inspections to ensure compliance with the organization's policies, procedures, regulations and standards related to employee safety, and with testing and servicing safety equipment and systems
  • Participate with senior safety personnel in monitoring and controlling the organization's safety standards in accordance with OSHA and State codes and regulations, and in evaluating new equipment and materials for safety
  • Report non-compliance or hazardous conditions found and suggest remedial action to be taken
  • Along with more senior personnel, respond to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, radiation, or fire and smoke incidents in the facility
  • Evaluation and periodic sampling of health hazards such as noise, welding fumes, and other industrial hygiene areas.
  • Supports both Operations and Maintenance and Construction organizations.
  • Act as a safety representative for field staff and craft.

  • Additional Information: The position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule (3 weeks on and 3 weeks off). Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided, however transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided. CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa (e.g., H-1B visa, etc) to fill this position.

    Contingencies:
    Any offer of employment will be contingent upon:
    • Demonstrated ability to perform the physical requirements (listed above) of this position via the successful completion of a Fitness for Duty Evaluation;
    • Negative results in a drug test
    • Attainment of a North Slope Training Certification (NSTC) via completion of modules
    CH2M HILL will schedule and cover program costs for Fitness for Duty Evaluations, drug tests, and NSTC training for job candidates. Candidates will not be compensated for their personal time spent completing these programs or for costs of previously attending the NSTC training, drug test or FFD evaluation

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical field directly related to the position and a minimum of 1 year progressive experience in construction safety disciplines.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to be insured for driving company vehicles

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Industrial Hytiene, Safety or related field.
  • Strong preference will be given to graduates of applicable ABET accredited programs.
  • Knowledge of legal policies and procedures with respect to safety and health issues.
  • Experience working with Office Suite programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) and database/reporting systems required
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety, industrial hygiene and OSHA regulations
  • Skill to manage one's own time
  • Skill in prioritizing and executing tasks in a high pressure environment
  • Skill in working with others as a team effort
  • Ability to develop, implement and perform detailed site health and safety audits
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others understand
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Knowledge of appropriate procedures for handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Skills in understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
  • Skills in communicating effectively orally and in written format
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service in a fast pace environment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to manage competing demands, accept criticism and constructive feedback, while being extremely adaptable and flexible
