Minimum Requirements: BS in Civil Engineering or Planning
Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland or AICP license (or to be obtained within 6 months of hire)
Minimum of 4 years professional experience in transportation planning and engineering for multimodal transportation projects
Proficiency with MicroStation or AutoCADD
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs and other relevant software programs
Experience with FHWA, FTA, State, and local transportation planning and environmental processes
Strong project management and supervisory skills
Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to discuss projects with co-workers, clients, regulatory agency staff, URS staff, and the public in meetings and at public events
Strong written communication skills and the ability to write concise and readable technical reports and documents
Must be highly self-motivated with the ability to successfully multi-task, perform detail oriented work, work independently, and demonstrate effective time management skills
Must have a valid driver's license

The Infrastructure and Environment Section of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented and experienced Civil Engineer for immediate employment in the Transportation Planning section. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established education in Surface Transportation, specific to transportation, transit, or freight planning and design. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The incumbent can look forward to supporting a wide range of planning and preliminary engineering projects for roadway, transit systems, freight, toll roads, bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The successful candidate will serve as a task manager on various projects involving environmental impacts studies, feasibility studies, alternatives development, preliminary design, comprehensive transportation plans, public involvement, and the overall preparation of NEPA compliance documents. This position is for a transportation engineer/planner who will be part of a team that includes planners, engineers, environmental scientists, landscape architects, and other support staff. Incumbent Responsibilities: • Serve as Transportation Engineer/Planner for small to large scale transportation and transit related projects. • Prepare and oversee the development of alignment studies, impact studies, feasibility studies, preliminary roadway design, traffic analysis, and comprehensive plans. • Prepare and oversee the development of preliminary construction plans, cost estimates, and specifications. • Coordinate with coworkers and other engineering disciplines. • Train and mentor less experienced staff • Produce high quality deliverables and adherence to URS policies • Participate in public meetings and client interaction • Demonstrate technical experience • Manage tasks on budget and schedule • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to those listed above.
