Job Summary

This position works with and supports the Organics Technical Services team which serves as the lead technical resource related to the development, design, technology and equipment selection, construction, and on-going operation of organic recycling operations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Assist with the development of next generation organics processing capabilities. Participate, as a lead or as part of a team, in overseeing organics processing development projects. Responsibilities can include, development of project scopes, schedules, budgets; coordinating with engineers and consultants, overseeing project development and construction activities, and writing of interim and final reports.

  • Serve as a technical resource in the development of site-specific equipment, technology, and operational solutions for on-going organics operations. Collaborate with area staff, organics recycling operations managers, engineering resources and others to ensure efficient and consistent organic processing facility designs that provide for low cost, compliant, and efficient management of organic residual streams. Assist with the development of equipment recommendations, site layouts, and material and process flows designed to meet generating and end-product customer needs.

  • Work with organics recycling operations mangers, local Waste Management engineering resources, and engineering consultants to develop and provide consistency in construction methods and specifications, procurement and bid management, contractor selection, and assist in project construction oversight. Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, project design specifications and quality standards, and timely completion of construction activities.

  • Assist with the technical evaluation and development of management strategies for new and emerging organics residual streams working with the consultants, organic recycling operations managers, program managers, strategic account managers, and other Waste Management personnel.

  • Assist in and perform detailed evaluations of specialized equipment, technologies and processing methods for processing organic residuals. Provide written summaries and recommendations.

  • Manage the sourcing and procurement of specialized equipment and technology for organics processing operations, including the negotiation of supply agreements, pricing and terms, and coordination with other trades.

  • Be an available technical resource and subject matter expert to support field operations and to resolve issues or challenges faced by local WM operations related to organics management and processing.


    Supervisory Responsibilities

    The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of employees. This includes:

  • Potential direct supervision of up to two full-time employees.


    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

    A. Education and Experience

    Required: Bachelor?s Degree in engineering and/or sciences, and 7-10 years of experience with at least three years of related experience in organics processing, resource recovery, solid waste management, or related experience.

    B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

    None required. Preference will be given to those with engineering, resource recovery, sustainability, and related professional certification(s).

    C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, and to work as part of a team

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft suite

  • Science/ operations background

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Willingness to travel
