Bechtelis designing, constructing, and commissioning the world's largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The $12.2 billion project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons (200 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct ofplutonium-productionduring World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects-equivalentto building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres (26 hectares) and includesfacilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory. Role Overview Essential Duties: - Manage the activities of the Resident Engineering group in support of field engineering activities for ongoing construction work.
- Serve as the Point of Contact (POC) at the construction site for resolving construction problems identified to Engineering.
- Responsible for the performance of the Resident Engineering multi-discipline group in processing field changes and applicable non-conformance reports received from field engineering.
- Complete resident engineering tasks within budget and process trends for scope changes.
- Jobsite interface with Field Engineering, Security, Field PDC, QA, QC, CAIS, and DOE.
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on resident engineering metrics to applicable managers.
- Requires extensive technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials, applications of computer softward to engineering problems to ensure the design is cost effective, in accordance with applicable safety, health, environmental regulations, customer requirements and engineering codes and standards.
Basic Qualifications - B.S. in Engineering from an accredited university or college and13 years progressive related experience or 19 years progressive related experience.
- Minimum 4 years in lead or supervisory position
Additional Information Minimum Qualifications - Requires extensive technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials, applications of computer software to engineering problems to ensure the design is cost effective, in accordance with applicable safety, health, environmental regulations, customer requirements and engineering codes and standards.
- Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check.
Preferred Qualifications - Prior Resident Engineering experience
- Prior WTP experience and excellent knowledge of WTP Engineering procedures and change management program
- Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
