CH2M HILL Geo-Environmental Engineer Careers - Charlotte, North Carolina

Our Civil Engineer careers provide you with the opportunity to work with experienced project managers, interact with clients and regulators, perform site investigations and remedial design work, and help restore environmentally impaired sites. This position will offer you the opportunity to assist a senior project manager in oversight and management of multiple, complex tasks (simultaneously) while also making technical contributions to projects for global commercial clients.

You should be a self-motivated, team-focused professional with 8 to 15 years of experience including direct project experience with industrial and solid waste landfill design, soft soil stabilization techniques, site remediation, civil design and storm water management evaluation. This position will involve engineering, design and permitting activities for projects involving a wide variety of industrial waste materials including coal combustion residuals (CCRs), mine tailings and other byproduct materials. Understanding of applicable EPA, North and South Carolina regulations and managing tasks involving multiple methods of site remediation and site management/characterization will be essential. You preferably hold a professional engineering license and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each environmental job.

Our Geo - Civil Engineers:

Develop storm water management evaluations and designs to manage storm water in a pre- and post development condition.
Conduct on- site testing of the leachability and geotechnical properties of CCRs and other industrial materials to design/optimize systems, evaluate viable remedial alternatives, and prepare detailed cost estimates.
Interact with internal team members in the local office, as well as regional and firm-wide staff.
Assist the senior project manager to plan, staff, schedule, budget, and ensure quality of work products, consistency across projects, ensure safety of staff, and coordinate with subcontractors and internal support staff, including senior technologists and subject matter experts.
Support the senior project manager in day-to-day interaction with our clients and regulators, and present information and frequently participate in monthly meetings.
Mentor and coach junior level staff.
Work with senior project manager and health and safety managers to develop safety plans including coordination of audits, integrated field team communications, and corrective actions where needed.
Possess strong writing, verbal communication, and leadership skills.
Grow to manage projects within the project life cycle (remedial investigation through operations and maintenance).

The successful candidate will be a part of the Charlotte, North Carolina based team. You will work with talented remediation professionals and will assist the senior project manager in day-to-day task management associated with the technical analysis and studies, environmental and remedial engineering, financial project management tasks, and regulatory and stakeholder consultation services .

Basic Qualifications

MS degree in Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering
8 to 15 years of environmental and geo-environmental project experience ; specialized experience associated with storm water management design, civil site and grading designs, and landfill design are is a differentiator for this position.
Experience managing tasks involving multiple methods of site remediation with a focus on CCR closure designs, remedial design/remedial action and site management/characterization
Task management skills, including proposal development, invoicing, and subcontractor management, and ability to write or drive development of technical reports are critical
HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain
Must be able to plan and perform or oversee field work, and have experience incorporating field information into landfill closure and remedial designs.
