Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, soil science, agriculture, geology or any earth science related field) • Knowledge of environmental data collection, identification and investigation, and data entry • May require the ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 lbs • May require the ability to have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions • May require completing training for Hazwoper OSHA 40-hr certification • May require enrollment in the medical monitoring program requiring initial and annual physicals and initial and random drug screens • Valid driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to travel and drive regularly, often long distances • Proficiency with the use of Excel and Access • Strong writing skills • Strong interest and skills in quantitative data management and interpretation. • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test Job Description: Do the best work of your life!
The Infrastructure and Environment Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Graduate Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in the Oakland office. This is an entry level opportunity and responsibilities may include: • Assess and interpret data • Plan, execute, analyze, and report on the impact of environmental issues to natural systems • Conduct or participate in environmental studies and prepare environmental reports addressing contaminant-impacts on environment • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemical physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain phenomena • Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment • May apply principles of natural sciences for engineering projects • Perform specific and limited portions of routine assignments • Gather data and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports; compile and organize environmental data collected by others • Apply standard field practices and techniques in specific situations • Prepare basic data and scientific documents • Perform supervised field tasks such as soil logging, monitoring well installation, sampling, testing, water level/groundwater gradient surveys, etc. • Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to those listed above.
