Job Description:  Office Managing Director is responsible both for long-term and day-to-day leadership and operations of assigned office; all financial and sales aspects including project performance and profitability, staffing and chargeability, billings and collections, sales and business development, office business planning.
 
Responsibilities include:


  • Office Leadership and Management
    Provide effective leadership to fulfill responsibility for office operations and profitability.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of office, implementing the firm's plans and policies to achieve overall firm objectives and enhance office & firm profitability and sales results- delegating duties and assignments as needed to effectively accomplish.
  • Facilitate positive communication and a collaborative environment between office staff, other AECOM offices, and corporate departments.
  • Promote innovation in architectural service technology for all disciplines.   
Financial Performance




  • Work in conjunction with corporate staff to establish effective and consistent planning and control methods to monitor project performance, taking appropriate action as needed for the office to achieve profitability goals.
  • Develop strategies to improve under-performing projects and implement with targeted goals and expected outcomes.
  • Continually strive to ensure projects are completed on time and within allocated budget.
  • Continually assess staffing levels to achieve chargeability goals; seek out potential staff sharing opportunities to maintain sufficient chargeability.
  • Monitor billings and collections of outstanding accounts receivable and assist in collection effort when office leadership is required. 
Client Service


  • Provide solid operational oversight for driving project performance and executing deliverables to maintain healthy client relationships.
  • Monitor project work at appropriate level so that AECOM can continue to provide high quality service to all clients, taking action when necessary to maintain firm's reputation for service excellence. 
Sales and Business Development


  • Accountable for office sales and marketing results
  • Lead and when necessary directly support office-specific business development activities and strategies to achieve firm, expertise and office sales goals.
  • Assure the development of sufficient profitable business to enable firm and office to achieve revenue and profit goals.
  • Maintain relationships with past and continuing clients and actively develop and pursue project leads and opportunities to sustain our association with these important clients.
  • Assure strong connection with regional business community.
  • Participate in presentations, negotiations and other major meetings with key clients to close sales.
  • Help build capabilities by recruiting talented professionals to enhance existing expertise or develop growing expertise.
  • Effectively represent the firm to clients, professional groups and general public.
  • Maintain adequate backlog
Business Planning


  • Assist in formulation of business, marketing and strategic planning with regard to assigned office.
  • Develop understanding of strengths and weaknesses of competitors in the region, regional trends and influences affecting business planning.
  • Develop, direct and monitor short-term and long-range plans for office consistent with overall profit and growth objectives of the firm in conjunction with Marketing Principals, BD leader, etc. 
Staffing and Development


  • Assure appropriate staffing levels for region.
  • Follow established personnel requisition and hiring process for filling positions.
  • Monitor employees to make sure they are adequately trained and have sufficient mentoring opportunities for career development.
  • Require supervisors to immediately address performance issues, working with Corporate Human Resources to develop plan for achieving successful outcome.
  • Monitor supervisor effectiveness in completing performance reviews on time and in meeting periodically with their direct reports.
  • Work with Human Resources regarding succession planning.
  • Promote continuing education. 
Project Quality



  • Champion Quality Responsible for monitoring project content quality, encompassing design, technology and project budget compliance.
Education, Knowledge and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related industry; professional registration desired.
  • 15 years or more of directly relevant industry experience including supervisory and project management experience, focus on client and project relationships, and strong business development background.
  • Demonstrated understanding of business management and leadership principles; demonstrated leadership and business development skills.
  • Proven strategic skills; experienced with development and execution of business strategy.
  • Expert communicator; solid verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills, both inside and outside firm.
  • International experience with marketing, sales, client interaction preferred.
  • Ideally a person steeped in the appropriate core values of the firm.
  • Confident, politically savvy.
