Job Summary

Applies advanced principles of finance to analyze financial and non-financial information.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.


  • Assist in a wide variety of financial, operational and strategic evaluations as they relate to proposed capital spending initiatives.

  • Serve as a liaison with Field management and corporate departments in assessing requests for capital expenditures.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of company standards and guidance for analyzing capital spending opportunities and forecasting capital requirements.

  • Develop tools to calculate the economic impact of potential projects. Prepare and deliver supporting training. Validate economic return models developed outside of FP&A in support of unique opportunities.

  • Liaison with Field personnel in developing project economics and supporting business and market assessments.

  • Assist Business Developers in developing financial bridge models to determine the economic costs and benefits of a potential acquisition or divestiture. Review proposed acquisition and divestiture candidates for financial return and strategic fit. Prepare recommendations and presentations for the Acquisition Committee and Senior Management regarding approval of proposed projects, acquisitions and contracts.

  • Assist and work directly with Senior Management in developing valuations of potential acquisition/divestiture candidates and assessing the impact of potential acquistions and divestitures on WM operations.

  • Assist in the Capital Post Completion Review process to access the effectiveness of the capital review and allocation processes. Participate in the completion of those reviews, and prepare findings and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team.

  • Explore current science around project analysis and capital allocation; identify and implement capital process enhancements and formulate company-wide guidance and policies to ensure capital optimization and maximize shareholder value.

  • Work with Accounting, Service Center, IT and Internal Audit to ensure that controls and processes within the capital approval process meet management and SOX requirements.

  • Identifie, investigate, evaluate and may assist in negotiating acquisitions/divestitures

  • Manage, analyze and report acquisition and divestiture activitiy for the entire company to/for Senior Management.

  • This level of analyst is recognized as an expert within the organization for valuation, business, pro forma and process issues.

  • Prepares and presents to senior management written and verbal reports and presentations on findings and recommendations.

  • Participates or may lead multi-departmental project teams formed to address specific business issues such as project economics, asset acquisitions and divestments. Engages key company constituents in the planning and implementation of assigned projects

  • This job may supervise the work of lower level analysts and/or act as a lead on project teams.

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.


    A. Education and Experience

    Required: Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience, in Accounting, Business Administration or similar area of study, and three to five years previous experience.


    Preferred: Master's Degree, or equivalent experience, in Accounting, Business Administration or similar area of study, and three to five years previous experience.


    B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements


    CPA, CFA, BVA, AVA and/or CMA certification.


    C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required


    Familiarity with the company and established relationships.

    Contracts administration or contract pricing.

    Operations experience in any industry.

    Experience using OLAP database Excel add-in analytical tools, especially Excel Essbase add-in.

    Need deep understanding of business and project valuation theory, Corporate Finance theory and financial statement analysis.

    Demonstrated knowledge of financial analysis, performance analysis and valuation theory.
