Job Summary

For Waste Management's Processed Engineered Fuel division, the Lead Maintenance Mechanic utilizes incumbent knowledge to repair and maintain plant machinery and mechanical equipment. Maintenance Mechanics observe complex mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. When necessary, dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Lead Maintenance Mechanic inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. He/she adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments and repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts. Starts devices to test their performance.


The Lead Maintenance Mechanic sets up and operates metalworking tools to make and repair complex parts. They must coordinate purchase order for parts and machines in addition to repairing electrical equipment. Lead may provide support and direction to less experienced Plant Maintenance Mechanics.


Supervisory Responsibilities

The Lead Maintenance Mechanic oversees small staff of maintenance technicians.


Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.


A. Education and Experience

  • At least 6 years experience in the Industrial or Manufacturing Industry Maintenance Field is required.


  • Experience in electrical system troubleshooting and repair is an asset in this role as is experience supervising staff.


    B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • All and any licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies are required.


    C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Other required items are experience with PCC control systems, Parts Inventory Control Software system and proficiency in Microsoft Office.


    Work Environment


    The normal setting for this job is: facility maintenance/repair shop. As part of the responsibilities for this role, you may be required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 50 pounds from time to time. You will be occasionally exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements
