Job Description:  General Summary
This position reports to the Finance Coordinator - Florida Region. This position will be responsible for overseeing margin and inventory processes and systems within the region. This position will also supervise and lead the Associate Business Analyst and COGS Accounting team members. In addition, this position will be responsible for coordinating projects and support for purchasing teams and the regional coordinator groups. A successful Sr. Business Analyst will possess strong analytical and communication skills, collaborative management abilities and the initiative to drive continual process improvement on cross-functional teams in the region.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed in support of the Regional Accounting Team or Whole Foods Market locations.

  1. Develop and foster strong working relationships with purchasing teams, product coordinators, and finance on various margin related issues and projects
  2. Lead, mentor, and develop Associate Business Analysts and COGS Accountants (currently a team of 6)
  3. Perform the special tasks and procedures related to your specific functional areas including being a subject-matter expert on IRMA, Store Ops and margin reporting
  4. Develop and monitor training programs on financial topics with stores and operational groups focused mainly on margins, IRMA/Store Ops and profitability
  5. Coordinate the Midwest's involvement in IRMA/Store Ops planning and development with cross-regional teams as needed
  6. Research and make recommendations for process improvements in accounting and operations
  7. Manage quarterly and periodic inventory cost audits at the request of internal and external auditors
  8. Develop, monitor, and support inventory policies and procedures within the region including being a subject matter expert on the HART and IVAN inventory systems
  9. Participate in other finance and accounting projects as needed including new system development and implementation

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
  1. 4 year college-level accounting or finance education or equivalent accounting experience a plus
  2. Minimum of 4 years of related work experience with at least one year in an accounting capacity
  3. Technical proficiency with Windows, Word, and Excel are required; working knowledge of Peoplesoft preferred
  4. Report-building skills a must, knowledge of BPC helpful
  5. Must understand Income Statements, Balance sheets, G/L, A/R, and A/P
  6. Working knowledge of basic finance and accounting principles, especially concepts relating to retail margins
  7. Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills
  8. Ability to evaluate systems and procedures and effect changes where necessary to meet the needs of the region
  9. Self-directed with the ability to problem solve
  10. Well organized, able to prioritize, multitask and adhere to deadlines
  11. Ability to work with others, direct others, and work cooperatively with other Team Members in ensuring completion of projects and assigned tasks is required. Must be a team player
  12. Travel to stores and facilities between 15% and 30% of the time. Travel may frequently require an overnight stay. Occasional projects may also require non-traditional working hours.
  13. Retail background, food industry experience preferred
  14. Business and reporting ethics a must
  15. Knowledge of Whole Foods Market principles and core values a plus

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of local currency and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have proficiency with Windows, Word, Outlook and Excel.

Other Requirements
Ability to travel on a regular basis to Whole Foods Market locations across the Florida Region.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays as required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders. Bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders and squat.
  • Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds.  Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
