Position Purpose

Provide environmental services for KLJ projects in a timely, accurate, and cost effective manner.


Essential Functions

  • Conduct on-site Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) to identify recognized environmental conditions and other conditions of environmental concerns
  • Project manager and client manager on designated projects
  • Adhere to project budget and schedule
  • Effectively deal with difficult situations and confrontation both internally and externally
  • Market to existing or potential clients and obtain work for the firm
  • Coordinate business development and marketing strategy
  • Prepare forecast of workload for assigned staff and closely monitor backlog
  • Provide quality control by reviewing work to ensure compliance with KLJ quality standards
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication
  • Provide direction, review, and support to the group by leading projects; assuring proper practices and techniques
  • Instruct, train, and mentor group members and support staff
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be able to operate motorized vehicles



  • Environmental planning services which may include federal, state, and local permitting
  • Conduct, direct and review NEPA documents (CAT-EX, EA, EIS)
  • Field services may include botanical inventories, wildlife inventories, migratory birds and raptors, and wetland delineation
  • Review previous reports, historical and regulatory records for the property and adjacent properties
  • Interview property owners, occupants, key site personnel and local government officials to obtain information concerning the environmental conditions related to the property and adjacent properties
  • Perform investigative research of service contractors and government agencies
  • Perform limited screenings for the presence of asbestos, lead-based paint, radon, etc. which may include the collection of samples
  • Communicate environmental issues to manager and prepare a written report accurately describing the findings and ultimately convey the environmental assessment of the property
  • May prepare scopes, fees, contracts, reports, budgets and proposals
  • Participate in and facilitate meetings
  • May plan, organize, coordinate, prioritize, and monitor client relations




A Bachelors Degree in Environmental studies or closely related field and 5+ years of experience is required.


Project management experience is preferred. Experience performing Phase II activities including soil, ground water, and air sampling, as well as underground storage tank removals is highly desired. Experience and certifications or licenses for the collection of asbestos and lead samples or air sampling is a plus.
