Summary of Role: The role involves the engineering, design and development of electronic components, firmware , and systems for the world's leading PV systems. This includes working with cross-functional development teams on new electronic and embedded systems for use with PV products, and the updating of existing systems to suit new PV requirements. Ideally, this role will include developing and maintaining a knowledge base of electronic component and system technology, industry regulations (existing and pending), interfacing with internal and external software and firmware developers, and working with external contractors for new system designs.

The ideal person will have a deep understanding of engineering principles, concepts, and industry practices with a wide-ranging experience in electronic product design. Experience with component vendors, external design and testing houses, fabricators and assembly services is required. Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, inverters, monitoring equipment, trackers, and their design and implementation is important. Experience with the certification bodies of electronic systems is highly desired.

  • Work with team members to design and implement improvements to existing electronic systems and to develop new systems
  • Work independently and with other engineers to establish functional requirements, and system cost and performance targets for the electrical and electronic aspects of system products and components.
  • Take a leadership role in the execution of complex engineering projects, providing guidance to more junior engineers
  • Advise other engineers on electrical and electronic requirements for PV and embedded electronic system products
  • Develop plans, schedules and budgets for independent and small group projects
  • Work with external consultants and internal resources to complete designs on time and within budget while meeting production cost targets
  • Support the transition of the product from concept to design to manufacturing
  • Develop specifications for electronic systems for use with PV systems
Minimum Requirements:
  • 3-7 years of embedded system development experience, electronic engineering and embedded product design.
  • Experience with C, C++, LINUX and at least one higher level scripting language. Experience with ARM microcontrollers, 8051 microcontrollers, and other processors.
  • Embedded software development experience, and a knowledge of embedded hardware and firmware development workflow. Solid understanding and knowledge of embedded operating systems, hardware platforms, electronic schematics, networking, and data communications.
  • Hands-on prototyping capability, and extensive troubleshooting and debugging of electronic systems
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative design solutions
  • BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • CAD skills and the use of electronic test equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Self-motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams
