Job Description: 

Job Summary:  This full time staff member will be responsible for monitoring large-scale stream restoration projects, preparing annual monitoring reports for submittal to state and federal regulatory and oversight agencies, and for working with other staff and contractors to identify and implement necessary adaptive management measures. The job will occasionally require outdoor work under adverse weather conditions. Work will require physical exertion including the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds of equipment in rugged terrain.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  The Tennessee Stream Mitigation Program, LLC, is a private, not for profit organization housed within the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation. TSMP is an approved “In Lieu Fee” stream mitigation program. The Project Monitoring Coordinator will be responsible for organizing and implementing annual monitoring of TSMP’s stream mitigation projects statewide and for coordinating and/or implementing identified adaptive management measures. Duties include:

  • Collection of data on riparian vegetation;
  • Surveying of stream morphological parameters;
  • Photodocumentation and visual inspection of projects;
  • Application of assessment methods such as the Rapid Bioassessment Protocol;
  • Review of data with Project Managers;
  • Preparation of monitoring reports for submittal to regulatory agencies;
  • Determination and coordination implementation of adaptive management measures such as treatment of invasive exotic plants, in consultation with Project Managers;
  • Other duties may be assigned based on employee’s interests and abilities and program’s needs.

 

Qualifications:  Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Geology, Biology or other area of Environmental Science/Natural Resource Management. Master’s Degree is preferred. Must have familiarity with common southeastern flora – especially trees and shrubs. Valid drivers license and basic computer skills required. Land surveying ability and GIS skills useful. Ideal candidate also has expertise or familiarity with fluvial geomorphology. Successful candidate will either have or be required to obtain certification in herbicide mixing and application.
