Position Summary:
The Green Schools Coordinator liaises with the Director of Education and Education Coordinator in supporting Earth Day Network’s Green Schools Campaign. The Campaign’s goal is to help green America’s schools within a generation, thereby improving the lives of one in five Americans every day. Our programs generate national and international interest on environmental education, school greening, and Earth Day events and actions focused on climate change solutions involving K-12 schools.

Additional Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s is preferred.
• A strong interest in and knowledge of current environmental issues, including green building.
• A strong interest in and knowledge of K-12 education (environmental or education itself).
• Comfortable handling multiple tasks.
• 1-2 years of project management and event planning experience is preferred.
• Excellent research and communication skills (verbal and written) in English. Experience or ability to speak French, Spanish, or Mandarin Chinese also desirable.
• Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel, especially for Back to School 2009-2010 and Earth Day 2010.
Job Duties: 

We seek an energetic and dynamic professional to support our green school initiatives:
• The Green Schools Campaign, which provides resources to teachers, students, and their schools on how to green one’s school, with multiple school greening projects planned both domestically and internationally for the 2009-2010 school year.
• Involvement in our campaign to coordinate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day globally for April 2010.
• Promotion of energy education research and materials for our Educators’ Network and schools nationwide focused on the post-2007 Energy Bill environment.
• With Education Dept., support and determine policy goals, policy targets, and advocacy strategies for federal, state, and local green school and environmental education policy initiatives.
• Support EDN’s GREEN reModel program, which seeks to significantly create 5 model demonstration projects of sustainability at schools nationwide.
• The continual creation of free and innovative environmental education curricula and activities for K-12 teachers and educators.

The Coordinator will be heavily involved in several of these initiatives, likely to include travel to events or actions throughout the year and especially for Back to School and Earth Day 2010.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities:
The Coordinator will support the Education Department in the following areas:
• Managing and coordinating Earth Day Network’s national and international Green School projects for Back to School 2009-2010 and Earth Day 2010, including logistics with schools and school districts, green project(s) implementation, volunteer management, and project evaluation.
• Conducting research on and assisting in the creation and continuance of EDN’s school greening and environmental education materials, including curricula and website development, school/teacher support, and outreach.
• Conducting research on and creating materials for energy education focused on the post-2007 Energy Bill environment, including information on conducting energy audits, light bulb technology, and energy performance.
• Support and coordinate our GREEN reModel campaign in five cities nationally over a multi-year period, including the implementation of significant green upgrades to school facilities.
• Monitoring and analyzing federal, state and local initiatives in identified policy areas including making recommendations for action, as well as developing and implementing strategies to further EDN’s policy priorities.
• Supporting and coordinating day-to-day logistics of the Education Department with the Director and Education Coordinator, including operations, meetings, and conferences.
• Working with the Education Coordinator in the recruitment, administration, and programmatic function of Education Dept. Interns.
