Environmental Information and Policy Support

 

Ross & Associates Environmental Consulting, Ltd. We provide a broad range of support to local, state and federal environmental agencies and not-for-profit organizations.  We conduct research, perform evaluations, develop policies, produce publications, support decision-making processes, and build Web sites to contribute to our clients’ ability to more effectively protect and conserve the environment and address key environmental concerns.  We are seeking to hire a full-time, entry-level consultant to join our existing support team for the Environmental Information Exchange Network (www.exchangenetwork.net) and other projects.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Support diverse teams working on policy/program development for new and ongoing information management issues related to state and federal environmental programs
  • Collaborate with internal staff and outside clients to research, evaluate, document, and communicate complex information management and environmental policy issues
  • Develop and maintain innovative Web 2.0, content management, and social networking solutions to increase participation in and understanding of ongoing projects, e.g., MediaWiki, podcasting, blogging, SharePoint, and webcasting
  • Assist in the preparation of clearly and accurately written documents, presentations, and reports
  • Support all aspects of teleconference and meeting preparation and facilitation, including preparing meeting agendas, summaries, and background materials
  • Communicate regularly and establish rapport with clients including state and federal officials
  • Track and communicate about multiple, complex, technical and non-technical issues and processes to a wide variety of audiences

 

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in environmental policy, information management, economics, natural sciences or related field
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental policy and familiarity with U.S. environmental programs
  • Strong interest in information management and technology, specifically new Internet-based technologies for exchanging and communicating information
  • Strong analytic, problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work under tight timelines with multiple and overlapping tasks and to work in situations requiring self-direction and initiative
  • Familiarity with standard office software applications such as MS Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, and Excel
  • 1-3 years work experience

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of information management concepts and challenges, including data standardization, system integration, and the application lifecycle
  • Familiarity with PHP, MediaWiki, .NET, and/or JavaScript
  • Experience in basic sound editing or podcast recording
  • Experience with virtual conference or webcasting
  • Conceptual understanding of web services, XML, and/or related internet technologies
  • Familiarity with small group facilitation methods
