Job Ref:  279
Employer:  Tesla Motors.
City:  Los Angeles
Type of Employment:  Full Time
Job Description:

Tesla Motors is breaking the mold and paving the path to change the way the world looks not only at alternative energy vehicles, but also at the paradigm of human transportation.    Our zero tailpipe emission products do not compromise on performance, luxury, nor utility.   Neither do we compromise on the people that make our products happen.

Tesla Motors is committed to hiring and developing the top engineers in any given discipline.    Our world-class engineering teams operate with a non-conventional automotive product development philosophy of high inter-disciplinary collaboration, flat organizational structure and technical contribution at all levels.   You will be expected to challenge and be challenged, to create, to innovate.   These jobs are not for everyone.

  • You must have a genuine passion for engineering electric vehicles.   Without passion, you would find what we're trying to do too difficult. There are much easier jobs.
  • You must want to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company.
  • We are building real products -- not presentations. This must excite you. You must be a builder.

We offer a competitive salary, meaningful stock ownership, health benefits, a fun work environment and the chance to make a real contributory impact on the world.

Senior Technical Specialist  - Vehicle Occupant and Interior Packaging, Layout and Engineering Design

Tesla Motors is seeking a technically qualified and highly motivated engineer, specializing in the field of Occupant and Vehicle Interior Packaging and Engineering Design.

Responsible for the complete interior of a new vehicle, including ergonomics, vision, seating, controls and interfaces with body structure and airbag systems, key objectives will be achieving styling, high spatial efficiency and world-class ergonomics while meeting all relevant legislative requirements.

The position is located at the Tesla Motors Design and Engineering Facility in Los Angeles, California.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of excellence and a thorough working knowledge of occupant and vehicle interior packaging, layout and engineering design.   Knowledge of, and the ability to correctly interpret current and impending legislation for US and World markets is essential.   Background in human machine interface and/or human factors engineering is highly preferred.

He/she will be a natural problem solver, an intuitive 3D thinker and a competent CATIA V5 user, capable of taking responsibility for and personally creating the complete occupant and interior package to an industry leading standard from the initial conceptualizing phase onwards.

The ability to interact well and knit into a small, highly motivated, multi-functional team working in a rapid, simultaneous engineering environment is essential, accepting inter-system technical compromises where appropriate.

The role affords the rare opportunity to take ownership of a new and genuinely cutting edge vehicle, so an enthusiasm and knowledge of cars is advantageous.
