Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.

Must have a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or have two years minimum experience in geotechnical/civil engineering projects. Candidate must be able to perform shallow and deep foundation designs and other geotechnical analysis.

Must be an Engineer-in-training (EIT) and have the ability to obtain Professional Engineering License.

40 hr hazwoper and current eight hour refresher training is required.

Minimum technical skills include: must be able to log soils per USCS, knowledge of geotechnical lab testing, ability to perform field investigations, analyze subsurface field and lab data, perform analysis for shallow and deep foundation designs, preparation of geotechnical reports. Knowledge of construction and environmental procedures.

Candidate must have excellent written and oral communications skills and be able to manage subcontractors and field crews as well as interact with other engineering disciplines within URS. Must be capable of working independently.

Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, and familiarity with AutoCAD, preparation of reports and spreadsheets. Ability to provide hand drawn sketches to CADD department.

Performing and directing work in a safe manner is of the highest priority.

Experience required regarding responsibility/accountability for Profit and Loss of assignments. Maintaining sold time goals as directed by supervisor.

Position requires having a valid driver's license and a means of transportation to field assignments.

Must obtain negative result on drug screen performed in accordance with URS drug testing policy prior to start of position.


Job Description:

Responsibilities include field and office geotechnical and environmental assignments, field and lab data analysis, foundation design, data management, preparing of closure plans, contract documents etc., oversight of contractors' work, report/proposal development and client and consulting team communications.

The successful candidate will apply and build upon skills in geotechnical/civil engineering, report writing, and oral communication and problem-solving skills.

Typical projects include: foundation analysis/design recommendations for single/multiply story structures, preparation of closure plans for landfills and environmental sites, construction documents, engineers cost estimates, evaluation and implementation of procedures.

This position reports to a Principal Engineer and interfaces with over 250 engineering and environmental professionals in the Chicago Office that are on various project teams. The position will work within the Environmental Key Accounts group consisting of over 60 team members including environmental engineers, environmental scientists, and geologists.
