Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field

Minimum of 7 years experience in the National Flood Insurance Program.

Must have experience with property and casualty insurance.

Proven ability to work independently.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to interact with local, State and Federal Gov’t officials, members of industry associations, and the public.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will support the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Regional office in Chicago, IL. Region V provides assistance to FEMA serving the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin, as well as the 34 federally recognized tribes located in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. This regional office provides advice, training and funding to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain and improve our capabilities for disaster preparedness, protection, response, recovery and mitigation.

The successful candidate will conduct outreach to NFIP stakeholders in support of the insurance and floodplain management objectives of the NFIP and provide support to the FEMA Regional Office. Stakeholders include state and local Government officials, community organizations, insurance agents, lending institutions, and the general public. Specifically, candidate will:
a. Receive inquiries, directly or via transfer from the FEMA regional office and directly respond to such inquiries or, as necessary, refer them to iService’s Bureau and Statistical Agent BSA) Headquarters, or to another appropriate location.
b. Support pre- and post-flood activities for the FEMA Regional office, including Town Hall meetings, and other events.
c. Support the Community Rating System (CRS) committee and FEMA regional CRS activities.
d. Work with state floodplain coordinators in presenting information on the NFIP at the annual CRS meetings for local floodplain managers and flood coordinators.
e. Coordinate insurance-related inquiry processing.
f. Provide assistance to stakeholders in the use of NFIP modernized systems.
g. Coordinate with and provide outreach support to FEMA Region V NFIP staff.

The successful candidate will report to the URS Germantown, MD office, but will work out of Chicago, IL URS Office or from a home office.
