SENIOR COUNSEL I

The Senior Counsel, Labor and Employment, provide legal advice and guidance to company line and functional management on matters affecting Bechtel business related to this skillset. The work is typically complex and challenging: issues are unique and require a high degree of original and creative thought for their solution. Position Duties/Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the position include the following: management and handling of domestic and international labor, employment, litigation and claims matters; investigating, responding and advising on NLRB, OSHA, EEOC, ERA Section 211, DOL, WARN, FLSA and other state, federal and other government administrative actions as well as advice and counsel on strategic domestic and international labor/industrial relations issues, collectively bargained benefits programs, and individual grievance matters. Also included is drafting, reviewing and revising labor agreements, jobsite work rules and ESH Core Process and Procedures; preparing and presenting training in the foregoing areas; advising on labor impacts pertaining to corporate architecture issues, managing ERISA issues concerning multi-employer defined benefit plans and Bechtel welfare benefit plans. Duties may also include environmental and intellectual property matters and other types of commercial and non-commercial legal issues.
The position entails determining case strategy, settlement authority and reporting to line and functional management regarding major developments and litigation costs;retaining and managing outside counsel and internal resources in accordance with Bechtel litigation objectives and case budgets; ensuring Bechtel compliance with discovery requirements, including e-discovery obligations, and supervision of Legal Assistant case support. Representing Bechtel at settlement conferences, mediations and arbitrations, preparing Bechtel witnesses for deposition and representing Bechtel with respect to government audits and internal investigations are also duties of this position. -Exceptional analytical and investigative skills, with strong attention to detail. -Strong presentation and negotiation skills. -Other areas of legal experience and background are of interest, as opportunities may exist to provide legal support beyond labor and employment law. -Grade Level 28/29: the grade level hired will be commensurate with the professional training and experience of the candidate.
