The Forestry Graphic Design Intern implements tactics to help The Nature Conservancy in the Southern Blue Ridge explain forest ecology and forest management concepts.


The Forestry Graphic Design Assistant leads a design project for one or more forestry graphics to be used in Southern Blue Ridge presentations and publications.
S/he uses computer illustration and readily available creative software to produce infographics and/or short animations to explain concepts such as timber management and mesophication.
  • S/he researches to develop the project, including gaining input from various staff, and illustrates project ideas, seeking review by North Carolina staff in Philanthropy, Communications and Conservation departments.
  • S/he designs a portfolio of samples based on the goal(s), purpose(s) and desired appearance(s).
  • S/he handles revision requests in a timely manner and delivers a final product of one or more graphics.
  • S/he works with program staff and vendors to implement assigned sections of the project, tracks project results, report findings, and provides strong attention to detail. S/he works within a budget.
  • S/he works on additional projects as needed, such as communications around restoration, ecosystems services, and wildfires.
This position will be based out of the Asheville office and supervised by the Southern Blue Ridge Conservation Coordinator. The position pays $10.00/hr, and is full-time and temporary, with a duration of approximately two months.


  • Coordinates ongoing work and basic projects.
  • Duties are performed under direct supervision and established guidelines.
  • Interprets guidelines and analyzes factual information/data.


  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with relevant technology such as Microsoft Suite needed for communications, constructing reports and managing calendars.
  • Experience providing administrative or project support.
  • Art, design and marketing experience.
  • Ability to explain forestry concepts in graphic(s) that laypeople will understand.
  • Experience writing, editing and proofreading written materials.
  • Solid knowledge of technology.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to coordinate efforts and organize in order to complete assigned tasks/projects.
  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
