Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in biology, soil science, botany, geography or other biology related discipline with at least 6 years of relevant work experience. Advanced degree in biology can substitute for some work experience. • Fluency with Clean Water Act Section 404 regulations and Post-Rapanos jurisdictional guidance. • Understanding of Corps of Engineers, Regional Water Quality Control Board, Department of Fish and Game, and US Fish and Wildlife permitting. • Experience conducting Natural Environmental Studies and other studies following Caltrans and Federal Highways Administration protocols. • Experience conducting jurisdictional delineations. • Experience with Preliminary and Approved Jurisdictional Determinations. • Plant identification skills and familiarity with California flora. • General skills in conducting wildlife surveys and assessments. • Experience preparing technical reports including jurisdictional determinations, botanical surveys, Natural Environmental Studies, Biological Assessments, mitigation and monitoring plans and restoration plans. • Experience preparing biological resource sections of CEQA and NEPA documents. • Experience preparing proposals for conducting biological resource work and/or involvement in other types of marketing for new work is desirable. • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. • Ability to lead field survey crews and manage small and large tasks. • Ability to peer-review technical documents conducted by others. • Ability to oversee the work of junior biologists. URS is seeking a full time Senior Biologist to add to our existing biology practice. The ideal candidate is a leader who would complement our talented staff, expand our capabilities, and work within our successful interdisciplinary wetland, wildlife, botanical and restoration teams. We are seeking a dynamic individual, capable of ultimately managing staff, conducting field surveys, overseeing and mentoring junior staff, and providing technical guidance to project planning document and project engineers; someone with excellent contacts and relationships within the regulatory agencies and with a proven track record of undertaking sound scientific work and delivering high quality technical documentation. This position requires excellent verbal communication and writing skills and the desire to assist URS in the continued growth of the biology practice. A successful candidate will utilize these skills to provide technical guidance, conduct protocol level surveys, compliance monitoring, prepare or review technical reports and interact and coordinate with natural resource regulatory agencies.
